Nehemiah had a ruined wall, tired people, and enemies on every side.
Chapter 3 of his book reads like a list, and the list is the genius. Section by section, the text names who repaired what. One family took the Fish Gate. Another took the next stretch. Many built the section “opposite his own house” (Neh. 3:28).
Every gap had a name beside it. The wall was finished in fifty-two days (Neh. 6:15).
The idea. Delegating authority is the fourth step of the LEADS Path. A measure everyone owns is a measure nobody owns. When a number belongs to “the team,” the number gets discussed. When a number belongs to a person, the number gets moved. Hand over the measure and the authority to act on the measure together.
The action for this week. List the four numbers that tell you whether your team is healthy. Write one name beside each. If your name is beside all four, hand two away this week, and tell the new owners which decisions they can now make without you.
“So we built the wall. And all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.”Nehemiah 4:6, ESV
