Is your integrity a transaction?

The test of integrity comes when doing right stops paying.

The book of Job opens with a question that sounds like an accusation: “Does Job fear God for no reason?”

The charge is that Job is good because being good pays. Take away the payoff, and he will quit.

The whole book tests that charge. Job loses his wealth, his children, and his health. He grieves, he argues, and he demands answers. He does not walk away.

The idea. Doing right is easy when right is rewarded: when the customer notices, the boss approves, and the numbers go up. The test comes when doing right costs something. The honest report that loses the deal. The credit you give away. The corner nobody would see you cut. Your team knows which kind of leader they have, because they have watched what you do when integrity is expensive.

The action for this week. Recall one decision this month where the right thing and the rewarded thing pointed in different directions. Which did you choose? If you would choose differently today, go back and make the matter right.
