Psalm 22 opens with a line most leaders would never say out loud: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
David was the king. He wrote that line down and handed the psalm to the choirmaster, which means the words were meant to be sung in public.
The psalm does not stay in despair. The last verses are praise. David does not skip the first line to get there.
The idea. Leaders learn to wear a mask: steady, fine, in control. Some steadiness is a gift to a team. A leader who is never anything but fine teaches the team that struggle must be hidden. Then the leader stops hearing the truth, because everyone else is wearing a mask too. Honesty does not mean falling apart in front of the team. Honesty means telling the truth to God first, and then to at least one person.
The action for this week. Name one person who knows how you are really doing. If nobody comes to mind, that is the first thing to fix. Tell one trusted person one true sentence this week.
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?”Psalm 22:1, ESV

P.S. Leaders need other leaders. That is why the Pride exists.
